History and goals

Health Focus e. V. was founded in 2014 by a group of development aid experts working for Health Focus GmbH. The idea was to develop targeted projects responding to challenges and social injustices that are not covered by international development programmes.

The main reason for founding the association was the case of Angie, a then 8-year old girl from DR Congo suffering from acute lymphatic leukaemia. In her hometown Kinshasa, Angie had no chance to receive the appropriate treatment for her condition. Her survival was at stake and the situation was intolerable. Something had to be done.

Unsettled by the knowledge that Angie would die prematurely, while a child her age in Europe would most probably be cured, the Health Focus team approached organisations such as "Ein Herz für Kinder", "Aktion Kindertraum", "Krebskranke Kinder in Not" and "Verein für krebskranke Kinder in Rostock" and many, many friends in order to secure funds for Angie´s treatment at the University Hospital in Rostock, Germany. Angie left the hospital cured a year after admission – an amazing experience for all supporters. It felt like a miracle.

However, Angie is just one little girl without appropriate access to health care and social support in her home country. The founders of Health Focus e. V. experience similar cases and situations all year round and across the globe. It is not only cancers or severe disease outbreaks such as Ebola that kill thousands of people. Even easily controlled chronic diseases such as hypertension or diabetes may represent a serious threat to vulnerable men, women and children. Children and the elderly are most at risk without your help.

Health Focus e.V. was founded with the goal to; develop and implement initiatives and projects in the fields of health, education and social services, promote international service standards and the human right to health and education. Health Focus aims to improve the living conditions of people in developing countries so that Angie and many others like her will find the services they need at the right place at the right time.
